Day 2: Fri 9 Nov 12 - Bangkok

Had a great night’s sleep despite the time difference but still woke at 5am local time.

Met up with the group during breaky and knew them all personally from previous trips, my road racing cycling days in Canberra or I knew of them.  After breaky met up with a few of the group for a light-rail trip to a nearby shopping centre.  Not much different to any other big city shopping centre.

Back to the motel for a brief on the tour by our Lead Guide, Bien.  It was at this time we found out that another smaller group was going to join our group, which would make the total about 18 with various people joining and leaving.  Not sure how that will work, so many people to cater for.

At 7pm we left for a pre-paid $50 dinner cruise on the river.  However, due to the boat being late from the previous cruise (a theme developing here) we waited on the dock for over an extra hour.  It was interesting to see the ferries of all shapes and sizes coming and going.   A well utilised river.  The cruise was interesting, run by a very sweaty gentleman from the UK, who was certainly feeling the heat.  We could see lots of lights on the shores, but it was difficult to make out too much detail as it was pitch black.  The live entertainment consisted of traditional Thai dancing and music.   The meal was plentiful and very good, but as we enjoy really good Thai food in Australia it was not that special.   Back to the motel and into bed about 11pm.

Reflections

This tour was a lot of fun, in fact it was fantastic.   It was great to have the other Aussies along, especially the ones I knew already.   ...
